Flag Day

Today has been a rather fruitful day for I have accomplished six CIP hours in which I believe, have made considerable achievement.

As I emerged from the dimly lit underground tunnel of Orchard, I arrived at CK tang and saw several Victorians wandering about aimlessly, looking rather lost. However it wasn't long before I found my way to the booth and there I saw Yuan and Naroth already there. The next few to arrive if I recall correctly is Calvin and Kloong. So we waited and waited for more people to arrive, collected our equipment and decided to start the day by going to Boon Lay. Party consisted of me, Chua, Kloong and Calvin. It was afterwards realized that Boon Lay was at the very end of Singapore and so we headed for Dhoby Ghaut instead. At Plaza Singapura, Kloong wanted us to watch a movie and start slacking but I didn't feel comfortable with that decision and decided not to join him. It ended up in no one else wanting to go, so Kloong left in a huff, angered at the journey wasted and the absence of an element of slacking that he thought would reside within us. We headed back to Orchard. Well as I expected most of the morning was already filled with crap talk.

As we emerged once again, from Orchard, I sourced for a place to camp and start work but observed that the entire street seemed to have already been occupied by another school. We crossed over to the other side and there I found an excellent spot to camp: Paragon. A place quiet so early in the morning and also a place free from competitors. So there we began. I would say that today has been a very memorable day. Managed to collect alot of money for the first one and half hours, considering that we wasted forty-five minutes previously.

Chua began to work slightly after I started and Calvin sort of hung around. He did get lucky several times during the day when people automatically approached him. Nothing great happened in the morning until Tsung called. Now this Sung We arrived three hours late with the full power of God behind him and started money collection with us outside Paragon. Later on in the day we met Joel and Zul and decided to eat at Macdonald's for lunch. We returned to Paragon later, a place where Tsung called the Land of the Rich.

Several interesting things began to unfold. Well there was competition from other schools, if only for a short while. We always managed to outcamp the other schools and well only Tsung got annoyed at their presence for "stealing business". Then there were these three clowns who were giving out what I believe were M1 fliers. Well at least I thought that the two women out of three clowns were bimbos and sucessfully attracted the gaze of many men outside Paragon. I and Tsung also targetted the last clown, some guy dressed up in a red suit and boots, reminding me much of those stiff British soldiers of the past where they were trained not to move no matter what happened.

We asked the guy for donation and he started joking with us and told us to come back later. We did and he had a fistful of coins for us. Such a kind man. As the day grew older, I got more used to asking for donations and kinda hit on everyone in sight, attacking mercilessly and ruthlessly. There was also some issue of Tsung and groups of girls from other schools where once he issued me a challenge to collect from them. Well, they would have donated I believe, for one of them reached into their pockets until Tsung came and then they left :P.

There was also some kind of race going on where two groups of people were rushing around doing stuff. This guy came and showed us a signed which I think read "If you think I'm sexy please clap". Well seeing that he was desperate we did him a favour and gave him what he requested for. It was quite entertanining to see him go around and ask people to clap for him. Very enthusiastic fellow.

In all happiness, the day ended at around 3pm where Tsung was quite efficient and being a late comer, had collected a fair amount. He would have been a worthy adversary had he come earlier :P. It also suddenly struck me as to how many foreigners Singapore seemed to hold today. Many of them didn't even know what the donations are for and most asked if there was a minimum amount set. Tired but happy, we left the Paragon when the minute hand neared three to report back to headquarters. As usual there were many pranks played and crap talk throughout. Tsung also said that some girls said he was "shuai" but we suanned him down by saying that he self proclaimed. More crap talk after we handed in our bags and stickers, more crap talk after we entered the train station.

More tricks and eveil deeds occurred on the train. The two left at Eunos, leaving me to continue on my way to Simei, in the midst of the powerfully humming soundtracks from the Return of the King coming from my Mp3. My legs nearly broke and I sat at Simei Mrt Staton for twenty minutes before getting up. Its now 9.42 pm and my legs have not yet healed :P. Despite the breaking legs, encounters with rude Singaporeans and courteous foreigners (I never said there were no polite Singaporeans OK!), it has been an excellent day, full of fun and smiles and happy memories. Last year in Victoria school will be a good one indeed.
